What is XPeng?
XPeng, also known as Xiaopeng Motors, is an auto brand that was founded in 2014. It is headquartered in Guangzhou and the production of electric cars is set up in Zhaoqing. The company also has offices in the US and Europe. The controlling stake belongs to the founder of Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, Lei Jun.
In terms of visual identity, XPeng has remained loyal to its original design concept from 2014, even after a thorough redesign in 2021. The company refined the contours and composition of its logo, reflecting growth and progress.
The original XPeng logo, created in 2014, featured a black-on-white inscription with the 'X' replaced by a graphical element made of four equal parts. This stylish and modern badge suited the brand's essence and philosophy.
The 2021 redesign retained the recognizable style of the XPeng logo but introduced changes. The graphical 'X' became a separate emblem, now consisting of two mirrored 'butterfly wings' above the uppercase 'XPENG' wordmark. The lettering was also updated, with thinner bars and wider contours, while the 'P' retained its open contour and the 'G' underwent significant shape changes.
The stylish, futuristic lettering in the primary XPeng logo is rendered in a custom sans-serif typeface featuring delicate elements, such as the open contour of the 'P' and the square curve of the 'G's tail, which balances the 'P.' The expanded shapes of the characters further enhance the logo's uniqueness.
The color palette of XPeng's visual identity is a minimalistic combination of black and white, symbolizing progress, style, excellence, and professionalism, all of which characterize the innovative Chinese car brand.
