smart Logo Meaning and History
The Smart brand's history began in 1994 when Daimler-Benz partnered with the watch company Swatch to create Micro Compact Car (MCC), aiming to develop an iconic microcar. Swatch designed the unique aesthetics while Mercedes-Benz provided the technical foundation for the vehicle. The first car was launched in 1998.
After Swatch exited the project, Micro Compact Car AG was rebranded as Smart GmbH. The Smart lineup expanded in the early 2000s, with the company increasing production capacity by opening new plants across Europe.
In March 2019, the Chinese automaker Geely acquired a 50% stake in the Smart brand, with plans to establish a plant in China and develop a new generation of vehicles.

The brand's visual identity is modern and minimalist, consisting of a wordmark and an emblem positioned to the left.
