In May 2014, Dodge officially introduced powerful versions of the Challenger coupe, designated as SRT and SRT Hellcat. The name Hellcat pays homage to the American Grumman F6F Hellcat, a World War II aircraft.
The base Challenger SRT received several distinctive exterior features, including a specially shaped hood, front splitter, new rear apron, and LED headlights. The more powerful SRT Hellcat version is equipped with large spoilers and an active air intake replacing one of the headlights. In 2023, the manufacturer announced that production of the Challenger and Charger would soon be discontinued. However, it was noted that the Durango SRT Hellcat will continue production until at least the 2024 model year.
