gemballa Logo Meaning and History
The tuning company Gemballa was founded by Uwe Gemballa in 1981 and is located in Leonberg, near Stuttgart, Germany. The company is best known for its aftermarket parts for Porsche, although it also works with other automotive brands.
In May 2010, after Uwe Gemballa went missing, the factory ceased operations. Later, the founder was discovered dead in South Africa, where he had been lured. The brand rights were acquired by the company CEO and an investor, and it resumed operations as GEMBALLA GmbH four months later.
The design of the current logo has a stylish, high-tech feel. The letters are white with black trim and feature an unusual shape based on squares. The distorted proportions give the design a unique and memorable appearance, as well as a sense of dynamism. However, this design poses some challenges for legibility.
While the font used in the old Gemballa logo was more legible, it was also less distinctive. It featured a simple italicized sans-serif typeface. To enhance the logo's uniqueness, the design team introduced a symbol: a stylized letter 'G' resembling a spiral. This emblem was available in both black and white, as well as in red.
